The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has once again demonstrated the impact of purposeful leadership and commitment to regional transformation as it was honoured with a prestigious award at the 35th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The recognition is a resounding endorsement of the Commission’s ongoing developmental strides under the leadership of the new management team.

A Recognition of Service to the Region

Receiving the award on behalf of the NDDC, the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, expressed appreciation to the university authorities for the recognition. He described the honour as both humbling and motivating, framing it as a clarion call to deepen the Commission’s resolve to serve the people of the Niger Delta with renewed energy and innovation. Mr. Ebie highlighted the NDDC’s ongoing transformation from a transactional agency to a strategic development institution committed to long-term results and people-centered projects.

Celebrating Academic Excellence and Strategic Partnerships

In a related milestone, the Commission’s Executive Director of Projects, Sir Victor Antai, was conferred with a Doctorate Degree in Philosophy (PhD) during the convocation ceremony. This academic honour not only celebrates personal achievement but also reflects the caliber of leadership driving the NDDC’s new direction. Sir Antai’s success is symbolic of the broader intellectual and developmental renaissance championed by the Commission, signaling a commitment to academic excellence and strategic collaboration with higher institutions.

A Unified Team Committed to Transformation

The NDDC delegation to the convocation was led by Mr. Ebie and included the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Alabo Boma Iyaye, as well as several directors and senior officials of the Commission. Their presence at the event underscores the collective vision of the new management to reposition the NDDC as a model of transparency, efficiency, and impact-driven governance. The leadership team’s unified front is a reflection of its strategic shift from fragmented interventions to comprehensive development planning across all nine NDDC states.

Advancing Development Through Partnership and Vision

The award ceremony at the University of Port Harcourt not only honoured the NDDC’s past and ongoing contributions to regional development but also paved the way for greater collaboration between the Commission and academic institutions. Such partnerships are crucial to ensuring sustainable development, knowledge exchange, and research-driven project implementation across the Niger Delta. The NDDC’s focus on infrastructure, education, youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, and health continues to align with the aspirations of the region’s population.

From Transaction to Transformation

The new management’s mantra, “From Transaction to Transformation,” reflects the paradigm shift occurring within the NDDC. With its 25th anniversary celebrations echoing across the region, the Commission is telling its story of renewal, resilience, and results. This latest recognition by one of Nigeria’s foremost universities serves as a reminder that the NDDC is not just building infrastructure—it is building trust, capacity, and a brighter future for generations to come.
