Celebrating a Leader with Impact
The golden jubilee of Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has become more than a personal milestone. It has evolved into a powerful testament to leadership, humanity, and inclusivity. As part of the four-day celebration of his 50th birthday, the grand finale on August 16th, 2025, was dedicated to uplifting lives through a skills acquisition program targeted at women with disabilities.
This initiative, tagged D.S.O @ 50 Skills Acquisition Training, showcased not only the celebrant’s enduring influence but also the transformative power of humanitarian gestures led by partners such as Hon. Timi Ziriki.
Empowering Women with Disabilities
Fifty women with disabilities were selected to participate in the program, receiving training in essential entrepreneurial skills such as soap making, car air freshener production, perfume blending, cream formulation, disinfectant (Izal) production, and insecticide making.
More importantly, the beneficiaries were not only taught but also empowered with the required starter packs and chemicals to immediately begin production, enabling them to earn an income and take meaningful steps towards financial independence.
The atmosphere was both joyous and emotional. Participants, including women with physical, speech, and visual impairments, as well as albinos, gathered to celebrate Dr. Ogbuku in song. Their heartfelt rendition of “Happy Birthday” reflected genuine gratitude, marking the event as a celebration of both empowerment and compassion.
