Federal Government Reaffirms Commitment to Improved Healthcare Infrastructure
The Honourable Minister for Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, in the company of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has undertaken an inspection of the ongoing Niger Delta Regional Hospital and Ancillary Building project in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The high-profile visit underscores the Federal Government’s determination to strengthen healthcare delivery and enhance the quality of life for residents of the Niger Delta.
Transforming Healthcare Access in the Region
The Niger Delta Regional Hospital, when completed, will stand as a centre of excellence in medical service delivery, providing advanced treatment and diagnostics to millions across the region. With cutting-edge facilities, including specialist units, surgical theatres, and modern emergency response systems, the hospital is poised to drastically reduce medical tourism and ease the pressure on overstretched health centres in other states.
Ogbuku’s People-First Development Strategy
During the tour, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku stressed that the project reflects the NDDC’s commitment to people-centred development. “This hospital is not just about infrastructure—it is about lives, hope, and the future of healthcare in our region. Our priority is to deliver projects that speak directly to the needs of our communities,” he stated. Under his leadership, the NDDC has advanced initiatives that merge infrastructural growth with tangible socio-economic benefits for the people.
Minister Commends NDDC’s Efforts
Minister Momoh praised the pace and quality of work, applauding Dr. Ogbuku’s visionary leadership and the Commission’s dedication to delivering results. He emphasised that the synergy between the Ministry and the NDDC is vital to realising sustainable progress, noting that healthcare, education, and economic empowerment remain top priorities for the Federal Government in the Niger Delta.
Boosting Jobs and Local Economy
The project’s impact is already being felt beyond the healthcare sector. Its construction has generated employment for skilled and unskilled workers, providing income opportunities for local suppliers and artisans. Upon completion, the hospital will attract medical professionals and researchers, further stimulating economic activity and creating a ripple effect across the region.
On Track for Timely Delivery
Both the Minister and Dr. Ogbuku assured that the project would be delivered on schedule without compromising quality. “The urgency of this facility cannot be overstated. Every day counts when it comes to saving lives,” Dr. Ogbuku affirmed, assuring stakeholders of strict adherence to timelines and standards.
A Milestone for Regional Development
This inspection marks another significant achievement in the NDDC’s ongoing mission to implement high-impact projects that address pressing needs in the Niger Delta. With Dr. Ogbuku at the helm and the Ministry’s support, the Niger Delta Regional Hospital is a symbol of renewed efficiency, accountability, and service-driven governance—ushering in a new era of hope for millions in the region.
