Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, esteemed colleagues, respected leaders, family, friends, and well-wishers,
I stand before you today with a heart filled with gratitude, humility, and joy as I celebrate not only the gift of life at 50, but also the unveiling of my modest contributions to knowledge and the development discourse of our dear Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.
At 50, one looks back with appreciation and forward with renewed commitment. My life’s journey has been shaped by divine providence, the support of my family, the encouragement of friends, and the trust reposed in me by my people. I do not take any of these for granted.
The books we are launching today—Strategies & Imperatives for Developing the Niger Delta and Rethinking the Niger Delta: Thoughts and Writings of Dr. Samuel Ogbuku—represent a reflection of my convictions, experiences, and deep concerns for our region and nation. They are not just texts, but a call to action. A call to reimagine our developmental strategies, to embrace inclusivity, and to build sustainable models that will uplift lives across the Niger Delta.
As Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), I have seen firsthand both the challenges and opportunities that define our region. These books distill the lessons I have learned—about leadership, accountability, innovation, and the urgent need to think beyond oil. They highlight the importance of education, environmental justice, technology, infrastructure, and human capital as pillars of our collective prosperity.
This golden jubilee is not merely a personal milestone. It is a reminder that leadership is about service and legacy. I want my life’s story to be one of impact—of giving more than I received, of building bridges rather than walls, and of contributing to the peace and progress of the Niger Delta and Nigeria.
I dedicate this celebration to the resilient people of the Niger Delta, whose struggles and sacrifices continue to inspire me. I also dedicate it to the youth, who must take up the mantle of responsibility with courage, integrity, and vision.
I am deeply grateful to my family for their unwavering support, to colleagues who have walked with me on this journey, to the NDDC family, and to all those present here today. This day would not have been possible without you.
As I celebrate 50 years of God’s grace, I renew my pledge to serve with honesty, courage, and compassion. Together, let us chart a new course for the Niger Delta—a course of peace, progress, and prosperity.
Thank you, God bless you all, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
