Introduction & Protocols
SWAN is the Association of all female members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). SWAN was established in 1978 with over 17 chapters nationwide while SWAN PH was inaugurated in 2012.
The objectives of SWAN were to offer training, empowerment and mentorship through their vision ‘Catch Them Young, Scholarships, Charity and Trainings’ by promoting the accounting profession and foster mutual respect in the society hence this week’s training programme which was fully supported and sponsored by NDDC.
The benefits of the training include knowledge in bookkeeping, accounting applications like Excel, QuickBooks by automation, records keeping, Internal Control, financial literacy and tax awareness.
The training was an engaging and enlightening one which sought to bring women in business up to speed with current techniques, procedures and apps that will aid their businesses and make them more responsible. This is part of the Renewed Hope vision of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and SDG Goals 1, 5, 8 and 10.
A total of 180 participants were selected randomly, and was officially flagged off by Hon. Victor Antai, Ph.D., Executive Director, Projects, NDDC, on behalf of Chief Samuel Ogbuku Ph.D., Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NDDC. The MD/CEO’s remarks at the flag off ceremony emphasized the Commission’s commitment to empowering women as critical stakeholders in regional economic growth, underscoring the importance of sound financial practices in sustaining small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) in alignment with NDDC’s strategic vision of fostering economic growth and inclusive development within the region.
The participants demonstrated active involvement through questions, discussions, and practical exercises. The sessions were interactive, with facilitators linking theoretical knowledge to real-life business practices. Feedback from participants reflected enthusiasm and readiness to apply the knowledge to their enterprises.
To ensure comprehensive learning, a three-month follow-up program will be hosted via a dedicated Telegram platform by SWAN for the trainees. This platform will provide participants with mentorship, a question-and-answer channel, and continuous access to facilitators.
We have come to the moment of confirmation of a successful exercise where certificates of completing will be awarded today.
SWAN is highly commended for this well thought out programme and the Commission looks forward to further engagements on a wider scale for the people of the region.
Congratulations to NDDC, SWAN, the successful trainees, the women of the Niger Delta Region and to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Thank you.
MD/CEO
