THE CONSCIENCE OF FOCUS: CHIEF (DR) SAMUEL OGBUKU'S SILENT ANSWER TO UNNECESSARY CRITICISM

In Nigeria, politics and governance, criticism is as certain as the sunrise and it goes down for the evil. Every policy, action, or decision of an agency in government will attract differing opinions and such opinions must be of good conscience.

Some criticisms are constructive and valuable, offering leaders a mirror to reassess and improve their administration. But others are needless, fueled not by sincerity but by the hunger for attention, bitterness, and a desire to remain relevant in the public space.

The greatest trap for any leader is to dignify such baseless criticism with a response which is not important at all. When a leader engages every noise, he inadvertently elevates the critic's ego, lending credibility to falsehoods and amplifying voices that do not deserve the platform globally. It is a strategy as old as politics: some people manufacture controversies simply to draw attention to themselves and remain known as such in society.

Chief (Dr) Samuel Ogbuku, the current Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)  understands this dynamic very well. Since assuming office, he has encountered both known and unknown detractors whose only strength lies in propaganda of falsehoods. Yet, rather than being dragged into endless arguments, he has chosen the path of maturity—silence and focus on transforming the region base on the mandate giving him by the NDDC Act and inline with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.

For him, governance is not a debate hall; it is a call to action, and the best response to such critics are visible development which he is currently doing for the region as the touch bearer of the people, which even the avowed critics are visibly seen in the region.

While professional mourners rehearse lamentations, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDDC, Chief (Dr) Samuel Ogbuku is building and repairing roads, restoring schools, strengthening healthcare delivery system, women and youth empowerment programmes, light-up Niger Delta project which affect every community including the critics home and creating more opportunities for Niger Delta people and beyond.

While some politicians invest in noise, Chief (Dr) Samuel Ogbuku is investing in progress that transform lives of the people in the region. This is the quiet conscience of a leadership: to allow results, not rhetoric, to speak on your behalf with development.

Infact history is clear on this matter. The loudest critics of yesterday have long been forgotten, but the legacies of leaders who chose focus over distraction remain visible for generations later. The memories of Chief (Dr) Senator Melford Obene Okilo and His Royal Majesty Papapriye Diete-Spiff then governors of old Rivers State are still counting as enduring legacies, such is the focus of Samuel Ogbuku.

Chief (Dr) Samuel Ogbuku's silence is not weakness—it is strength guided by conscience. He knows Niger Delta people are not waiting for counter-arguments; they are waiting for results.

Indeed, the Niger Delta region is already witnessing the dividends of this approach toward development. Niger Delta people are learning to distinguish between empty voices that add no value and a leader who, though silent in the face of noise, is steadily transforming their lives without being complain as bunch of empty drums are trying to create an imaginary scenario to capture attention all time.

As the saying goes: “The dog barks, but the train moves on.” Chief (Dr) Samuel Ogbuku has chosen to move forward with the train load of development, leaving detractors to their endless barking. In the end, progress will always silence propaganda in the region.
