Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), is playing a critical role in enhancing maritime security in the Niger Delta region. His leadership emphasizes addressing chronic challenges affecting the region's waterways, which are critical for economic activities, transportation, and livelihoods.


Under Dr. Ogbuku's governance, the NDDC Management, is focusing on infrastructure development that supports maritime security. This includes constructing and rehabilitating jetties and bridges, improving navigability, and enhancing safety across the region's complex network of rivers and creeks. Such projects aim to facilitate smoother maritime trade, strengthen economic growth, and improve access to communities reliant on water transport.

The naval operational facilities in Ayakoro community,Bayelsa State will serve as a central point for maritime security and defence operations, playing an important role in safeguarding the nation's interests at sea. The operational facilities will enable naval the Nigeria Navy to conduct effective patrols, surveillance, and response missions, ensuring the protection of territorial waters, shipping lanes, and offshore resources from threats like piracy, illegal fishing, and smuggling.

Dr. Ogbuku's approach to maritime security also involves collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, oil companies, and local communities. By fostering partnerships, the commission seeks to tackle issues like piracy, illegal bunkering, and environmental degradation affecting the Niger Delta's maritime domain. Strengthening maritime security is seen as vital for protecting the region's ecological resources and supporting sustainable development.

Through projects  like these, Dr. Ogbuku is contributing to a more secure and prosperous maritime environment in the Niger Delta. His focus aligns with overarching objectives  of promoting regional stability, economic diversification, and improved quality of life for inhabitants of the oil-rich but historically challenged Niger Delta region. Efforts to enhance maritime security also complement other NDDC projects in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and youth empowerment under Dr. Ogbuku's stewardship. .
