As we joyfully celebrate Christmas Day and prepare to welcome the New Year 2026, we at Niger Delta Progress-Reporters deem it appropriate to reflect on the remarkable progress recorded in 2025 under the leadership of Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The outgoing year has been one of renewed confidence, visible impact, and steady transformation for the Niger Delta. Under Dr. Ogbuku’s purposeful stewardship, the NDDC continued to redefine its mandate—moving decisively toward transparency, accountability, and people-centred development.

Across the region, communities have begun to experience governance that delivers real value.
In 2025, the Commission made notable strides in infrastructure development, particularly through the completion and advancement of long-abandoned road projects, bridges, and access routes. These interventions have enhanced connectivity, stimulated local economies, and eased long-standing transportation challenges for residents.

Equally commendable was the sustained focus on power and electrification, as several rural and riverine communities gained access to electricity, some for the first time in decades. This milestone has improved livelihoods, empowered small businesses, and strengthened social and economic activities across the Niger Delta.

Beyond physical infrastructure, Dr. Ogbuku’s administration reaffirmed the principle that true development is about people. Investments in education, scholarship schemes, youth empowerment, skills acquisition, healthcare delivery, and social interventions underscored a holistic development approach—one that prioritises human capital and long-term sustainability.

The Commission also demonstrated growing commitment to environmental responsibility, integrating erosion control, shoreline protection, and eco-friendly initiatives into its programmes, in recognition of the Niger Delta’s delicate ecosystem.
As we look ahead to 2026, there is strong optimism that the solid foundations laid in 2025 will yield even greater dividends. With improved institutional capacity, stronger stakeholder partnerships, and restored public confidence, the NDDC is well-positioned to consolidate gains, complete ongoing legacy projects, expand empowerment programmes, and deepen sustainable development efforts across the region.

On this Christmas Day, a season that symbolises hope, renewal, and goodwill, we extend our heartfelt wishes to the people of the Niger Delta. May 2026 usher in greater peace, prosperity, and inclusive development for our communities.
We remain confident that under the focused and inclusive leadership of Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the New Year will mark another chapter of fruitful service, impactful governance, and enduring progress in the Niger Delta.
