The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, alongside Dr. Doodei Week, joined prominent dignitaries and members of the Ofoni community to pay their last respects at a solemn burial ceremony held in Ofoni, Bayelsa State. The event was also of His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Executive Governor of Bayelsa State.

The ceremony marked a moment of collective mourning as the community laid to rest one of Bayelsa State’s distinguished and highly respected sons. The presence of Dr. Samuel Ogbuku and Dr. Doodei Week at such a sensitive moment underscored their shared commitment to standing with the people, not only in times of progress and development, but also during moments of profound grief.

Dr. Ogbuku’s attendance reflected his deep-rooted connection to the Niger Delta people and his understanding that leadership extends beyond official responsibilities to include empathy, solidarity, and moral support at the grassroots level. Similarly, Dr. Doodei Week, widely regarded as a man of the people, demonstrated once again his people-centered leadership by standing shoulder to shoulder with the Ofoni community as they mourned their loss.

Over the years, Dr. Doodei Week has consistently shown a strong sense of community engagement, making himself available for events that matter deeply to the people—whether developmental initiatives, cultural gatherings, celebrations, or solemn occasions such as this. His presence at the burial further reinforced his belief that true leadership is defined by compassion, accessibility, and shared humanity.

As the deceased was finally laid to rest, prayers were offered for divine comfort and strength for the bereaved family, the Ofoni community, and the government and people of Bayelsa State. It is the collective hope that God grants them the fortitude to bear this painful loss and the grace to preserve and honor the enduring legacy of a life well lived.
