Dr. Samuel Ogbuku Honoured with Chieftaincy Title as PERE SE-BOBO of Ogu Kingdom
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has been formally honoured with a prestigious chieftaincy title following his arrival at the palace of the Amanyanabo of Ogu Kingdom for his installation as the PERE SE-BOBO of Ogu Kingdom. The conferment was carried out by the Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs in strict adherence to the customs and traditions of the kingdom.
The installation ceremony, which came after Dr. Ogbuku’s participation in the mandatory Omuaru Boat Regatta, marked a significant cultural milestone. The Omuaru is a revered traditional rite among riverine communities, symbolizing strength, prestige, unity, and communal acceptance. By completing this ritual, Dr. Ogbuku demonstrated not only respect for the traditions of the Ogu people but also his readiness to fully integrate into the cultural fabric of the kingdom.
In the Niger Delta, chieftaincy titles go far beyond ceremonial recognition. They represent a deep endorsement of character, leadership, and service to the people. The conferment of the PERE SE-BOBO title on Dr. Ogbuku reflects the Ogu Kingdom’s
acknowledgement of his contributions to development and his commitment to fostering meaningful relationships between the NDDC and host communities across the region.
The honour also underscores the vital role of traditional institutions in governance and development within the Niger Delta. Effective
collaboration between government agencies and respected traditional authorities remains essential for project sustainability, community trust, and peace. By engaging these institutions with respect and sincerity, Dr. Ogbuku has continued to strengthen grassroots support for the NDDC’s development agenda.
This recognition further highlights Dr. Ogbuku’s approach to leadership, which blends administrative competence with cultural diplomacy. His engagement with local customs and traditions serves as a bridge between policy-driven governance and community-based values, reinforcing the NDDC’s vision of inclusive and people-oriented development.
The installation as PERE SE-BOBO of Ogu Kingdom stands as a testament to Dr. Ogbuku’s growing acceptance and influence within the Niger Delta, and a clear signal that his leadership philosophy resonates not only within boardrooms and government circles, but also among the traditional custodians of the region’s heritage.
