AYAMA IJAW – As the race for the Ijaw National Congress (INC) presidency intensifies, frontline candidate Engr. Ebipamowei Wodu has taken his consultative tour to Ayama Ijaw, paying a strategic visit to the renowned community leader and elder statesman, Dr. Doodei Week.
The visit, which took place on Wednesday, marks a pivotal moment in Wodu’s campaign as he seeks to consolidate support among key Ijaw power brokers. Engr. Wodu is now the fourth presidential aspirant to visit Dr. Week’s residence, following earlier consultations by three other major contenders:
Addressing Dr. Week and a gathering of community stakeholders, Engr. Wodu emphasized the need for a paradigm shift in the leadership of the Ijaw nation’s apex socio-cultural body. He articulated a vision rooted in industrialization and proactive advocacy.
"My leader, Dr. Week, I have come here today not just as a candidate, but as a son of the soil who is deeply concerned about the current trajectory of the Ijaw nation," Wodu stated. "My administration will focus on unity, industrialization, and the empowerment of our youth. We must move beyond reactionary politics and begin to set the agenda for the Niger Delta."
Wodu, an engineer by profession, noted that his technical background equips him with the discipline required to manage the complex challenges facing the Ijaw people. He formally requested Dr. Week’s blessings, stating, "My track record in engineering and management has prepared me for the technical and administrative rigors this office demands."
A Call for Collective Interest
In his response, Dr. Doodei Week praised the aspirant’s character and professional standing. He noted that the influx of high-caliber candidates to Ayama Ijaw is a testament to the vibrant democratic spirit within the Ijaw nation.
"Engr. Wodu, your reputation precedes you as a man of integrity and technical excellence," Dr. Week remarked. "The INC Presidency is a sacred trust, and I am pleased to see men of your caliber stepping forward. The fact that you are the fourth candidate to visit Ayama shows that our people are engaged in the democratic process."
The elder statesman urged Wodu and other aspirants to prioritize the survival and prosperity of the Ijaw people over personal ambition. "My advice to you is to remain focused on the collective interest of the Ijaw people. We need a leader who can bridge the gap between the various states and clans," he added, concluding with a prayer for a peaceful and successful election.
Campaign Momentum
The visit concluded with a private high-level session, followed by Wodu’s interaction with local supporters in Ayama. Observers note that the INC presidential race is becoming increasingly competitive as candidates ramp up their grassroots engagement ahead of the polls.
