A MOTHER TO ALL: TRIBUTE TO THE EXEMPLARY LIFE OF LATE CHIEF (MRS) VIOLET NWAMAKA EGIRANI

BY DAVE IKIEDEI ASEI | NIGER DELTA PROGRESS-REPORTERS | MARCH 15, 2026

A FINAL FAREWELL IN ANYAMA KINGDOM

The serene atmosphere of Ogbia Local Government Area in Bayelsa State became a focal point of reflection and honor over the weekend as the family of the late CHIEF MICHEAL COSMOS EGIRANI (ADDI XI, OBANEMA OF ANYAMA) gathered to bid a final farewell to their matriarch. The transition of LATE CHIEF (MRS) VIOLET NWAMAKA EGIRANI (NEE ANYAEGBUNAM) marked the end of a profound era for the Anyama people and the wider Niger Delta community.

NINE DECADES OF GRACE AND SERVICE

Mama, as she was affectionately known, transitioned at the venerable age of 91. Her life was a masterclass in longevity defined by purpose rather than just years. Having lived through nearly a century of societal shifts, she remained a constant pillar of stability and wisdom. Her passing is not merely a moment of mourning but a celebration of a "ripe age" achieved with dignity, clarity, and an unwavering commitment to her values.

THE LEGACY OF THE OBANEMA’S CONSORT

As the wife of the Obanema, Chief Violet Egirani occupied a position of significant traditional influence. However, it was her unique leadership style that earned her a permanent place in the hearts of the people. She redefined the role of a traditional leader’s spouse through a rare blend of HUMILITY AND COURAGE. Rather than leading from a distance, she was deeply embedded in the lives of her people, offering guidance that was as firm as it was kind.

AN ENDURING IMPACT OF KINDNESS

Beyond the titles and traditional rites, the late Chief (Mrs) Violet Egirani left behind a selfless legacy. She was a woman who translated her influence into acts of service, fostering peace within the Ogbia LGA and providing a maternal shield for the vulnerable. Her life served as a testament to the fact that true power lies in the ability to uplift others.

As the dust settles on her final earthly journey, the echoes of her kindness and the strength of her character remain. May her soul continue to rest in eternal peace, and may her legacy of selfless leadership continue to inspire generations in Anyama and beyond.
