ASABA, DELTA STATE – Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has lauded the newfound cohesion within the Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking at the APC South-South Zonal Convention in Asaba, Dr. Ogbuku characterized the current state of the party as a significant turning point for regional politics.

The Managing Director’s remarks follow the high-profile defection of Governor Douye Diri from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in late 2025—a move that has fundamentally reshaped the state's political landscape.

A "New Dawn" for Party Cohesion

Dr. Ogbuku signaled an end to the internal "fragmentation" that has historically challenged the Bayelsa APC for over a decade. He described the current atmosphere as a "new dawn," noting that disparate factions have successfully integrated into a singular, formidable front.

"We have moved past the era of internal friction," Dr. Ogbuku stated. "Today, the Bayelsa APC stands as one big, united family, focused on a shared vision for the state and the region."

Endorsement of Governor Diri’s Leadership

A central theme of Dr. Ogbuku’s address was his formal endorsement of Governor Douye Diri as the leader of the party in Bayelsa. He commended the Governor’s transition, highlighting several key leadership milestones:

  • Reconciliation: Fostering a culture of forgiveness and humility among long-standing members.
  • Integration: Effectively merging "old" and "new" party elements to eliminate internal segregation.
  • Strategic Shift: Redirecting the party’s energy toward grassroots mobilization rather than internal power struggles.

Prioritizing 2027 and the Tinubu Mandate

Looking toward the future, Dr. Ogbuku emphasized that the primary objective of this unified front is the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. To ensure a landslide victory, Ogbuku urged party members to set aside personal and regional ambitions.

Reinforcing his own commitment to this cause, the NDDC Chief once again dismissed rumors regarding a potential 2027 governorship run, insisting that his focus remains entirely on collective party success and his current federal mandate.

Strategic Alignment with the Federal Government

Finally, Dr. Ogbuku argued that a unified Bayelsa APC is essential for the state’s "strategic alignment with the center." He maintained that internal peace is the prerequisite for unlocking federal development opportunities and accelerating economic growth through the NDDC and other federal agencies.
