THE WEEK GOLD STANDARD: NAVIGATING THE NIGER DELTA’S FUTURE THROUGH INTEGRITY AND VISION
DR. DOODEI WEEK is a distinguished Scholar-Statesman, Administrator, and Procurement Expert with over three decades of transformative leadership in the Nigerian public sector. Currently serving as the Special Adviser on Procurement to the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Week is widely recognized as the pioneer of the "Week Gold Standard"—a framework of transparency, accountability, and technical excellence that has redefined regional development.
Born and raised in AYAMA IJAW, Bayelsa State, Dr. Week’s leadership philosophy was forged in the resilient cultural landscape of the Niger Delta. A lifelong scholar, his academic journey began at Community Primary School, Ayama Ijaw and culminated in a Doctorate (PhD). His research-driven approach bridges the gap between complex governance theories and practical, grassroots application.
During his tenure as Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources in Bayelsa State, Dr. Week revolutionized the state’s approach to sustainability. He moved the needle from subsistence to Agro-Industrialization, launching critical initiatives in food security by establishing processing hubs to reduce post-harvest losses, and in natural resource management by protecting the Delta’s ecosystem while maximizing indigenous wealth.
As Director of Procurement at the NDDC, Dr. Week became the institutional guardian of public funds. He is credited with system modernization through the implementation of digital tendering processes to eliminate bottlenecks, the Value for Money (VfM) philosophy which prioritizes long-term project durability over short-term low-cost bids, and maintaining a flawless record of ethical leadership in compliance with the Public Procurement Act.
His core competencies include providing high-level strategic advisory on large-scale infrastructure and regional policy, leveraging decades of institutional memory to navigate complex bureaucratic landscapes, and fostering stakeholder engagement to bridge the gap between government objectives and community needs.
Dr. Week remains dedicated to a "Post-Oil Niger Delta," envisioning a region where transparent governance and diversified economic investments create a lasting legacy for the next generation. He continues to serve as a mentor to emerging civil servants and a trusted voice in the executive wing of regional administration.
