NDDC REVOLUTIONIZES REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH PROCUREMENT DIGITIZATION AND POLICY REFORM

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has taken a decisive step toward institutional excellence with the continuation of its Policy Reform and Digitization Training Workshop in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. This initiative signals a strategic shift from traditional administrative bottlenecks toward a streamlined, technology-driven framework designed to optimize service delivery across the Niger Delta region.

Central to the workshop’s objectives is the total overhaul of the Commission’s procurement lifecycle. Speaking at the opening session, the NDDC Director of Procurement, Dr. Chuks Osuji, emphasized that the transition to a digital procurement procedure is more than a technical upgrade; it is a fundamental shift toward fiscal responsibility. According to Dr. Osuji, the digitization process is engineered to promote transparency by creating a verifiable digital trail for every contract, improve data management by ensuring records are secure, and reduce costs by minimizing the financial overhead associated with manual, paper-based systems.

Dr. Osuji urged participants to engage deeply with the training, noting that the ultimate goal is to establish a seamless and credible procurement process that restores public confidence in regional administration. This push for digitization is not an isolated effort but a localized implementation of broader national goals. Engr. Evong M. Evong, the Director of the NDDC Akwa Ibom State Office, noted that the Commission’s current trajectory is strictly aligned with the policy reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

By adopting "e-procurement" and digital governance tools, the NDDC is positioning itself as a modern interventionist agency capable of meeting the demands of a 21st-century economy. Engr. Evong highlighted that operating in this "era of digitization" is essential for the Commission to remain relevant and effective in its mandate to transform the Niger Delta.

As the NDDC moves "Beyond 25" years of existence, the emphasis has shifted from mere project execution to sustainable institutional transformation. This workshop represents a core component of the "Transition to Transformation" strategy, ensuring that the staff are equipped with the digital literacy required to manage resources efficiently. The Uyo workshop serves as a blueprint for how the Commission intends to conduct business moving forward—prioritizing speed, accuracy, and integrity. Through these reforms, the NDDC reaffirms its commitment to "Making a Difference" in the lives of the people of the Niger Delta, ensuring that every naira spent is a naira accounted for in the pursuit of regional prosperity.
