CALABAR – In a significant move to bolster regional development and solidify inter-governmental synergy, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, paid a high-level strategic visit to the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Senator Bassey Otu.

The meeting, held at the Government House in Calabar, served as a critical platform for deliberating on the NDDC’s evolving strategic partnership framework. Accompanying the MD/CEO was Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, the representative for the Cross River Southern Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC, whose presence underscored the legislative backing for the Commission's current trajectory.

Focus on Strategic Frameworks

During the discussions, Dr. Ogbuku emphasized the Commission's commitment to a "Partnership that Works," focusing on integrating state-level priorities into the broader regional master plan. The dialogue centered on:

  • Assessment of State Projects: Evaluating the current standing and impact of NDDC-led initiatives within Cross River State.
  • Infrastructure Synergy: Harmonizing the Commission’s interventionist goals with Governor Otu’s "People First" mandate to ensure zero duplication of efforts.
  • Economic Empowerment: Exploring new avenues for youth and women empowerment through the Commission’s specialized schemes.
  • "The visit provided an opportunity to deliberate on the NDDC’s strategic partnership framework and assess Cross River State’s position within it," Dr. Ogbuku noted, highlighting the importance of a unified front in tackling the developmental challenges of the Niger Delta.

    Legislative and Executive Collaboration

The inclusion of Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong in the delegation highlights a seamless alignment between the executive management of the NDDC and the National Assembly. As Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC, Senator Ekpenyong’s role is pivotal in ensuring that the budgetary and oversight functions of the Senate translate into tangible development for the people of Cross River and the wider region.

Governor Bassey Otu, in his response, expressed his administration's readiness to collaborate more closely with the NDDC. He commended Dr. Ogbuku’s leadership style, which prioritizes consultation and inclusivity, noting that Cross River State remains a key stakeholder in the quest for a prosperous Niger Delta.

    Looking Ahead

As the NDDC continues to shift toward a more transparent and partner-driven model, this visit marks a milestone in ensuring that Cross River State benefits optimally from the Commission's resources. The discussions held in Calabar are expected to pave the way for new project flags-offs and the completion of existing infrastructure across the state’s three senatorial districts.
