NEMBE, BAYELSA STATE — The Nembe Local Government Area became a focal point of honor and regional solidarity on Saturday, April 25, 2026, as family, friends, and high-ranking officials gathered for the funeral rites of two distinguished sons of the soil. Among the prominent dignitaries in attendance was the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, who joined the people of Ogbolomabiri and Basambiri to pay his respects and celebrate the enduring impacts of the departed.

The atmosphere in Ogbolomabiri was one of profound respect as Dr. Samuel Ogbuku joined the community to honor Navy Captain (Chief) Walter Faghabo-Amain (Rtd). As a former Military Administrator of Ebonyi State, Captain Faghabo-Amain is revered for laying the foundational infrastructure that continues to drive development in that region. Dr. Ogbuku’s presence underscored the regional significance of the Captain's service, highlighting a life lived with exemplary discipline and a commitment to public good. The NDDC Managing Director joined mourners in reflecting on the retired Captain’s "enduring and memorable legacies," noting that such lives of service remain a beacon for current leaders across the Niger Delta.

Following the rites in Ogbolomabiri, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku extended his outreach to the Basambiri community, participating in the reception ceremony held in honor of the late Mr. Moses Omubo Amabebe. Dr. Ogbuku joined the Amabebe family and the wider Basambiri community to celebrate a "life well lived." His participation served as a heartfelt gesture of condolence and communal support, reinforcing the ties that bind the leaders and the people of the Niger Delta during times of transition.

The active participation of the NDDC Managing Director throughout the events in Nembe LGA highlighted a leadership style rooted in community engagement. By standing with the people of Ogbolomabiri and Basambiri, Dr. Ogbuku emphasized the importance of honoring those who have contributed to the growth and stability of the region. As the ceremonies concluded, the collective sentiment was one of gratitude—not only for the legacies left behind by Captain Faghabo-Amain and Mr. Amabebe but for the spirit of unity demonstrated by the region's current leadership in honoring its heroes.
